  “You… what? You really did that? For me?” he paused, searching her expression, trying to decide if she was telling the truth or if this was more Andi-level insanity. “Andi, I’m sorry. I’m sorry I yelled. Sorry I stormed out. It’s just, my sister gave it to me and it means a lot to me.”

  “I know.” She took it off him and carefully slipped it over his head. He felt the weight of it, secure against his heart.

  He stared at her, mystified. “The reserve bid I put in was five hundred dollars.”

  “Someone else wanted it more.”

  “And you kept bidding against them?”

  “On my phone, during the concert.”

  “How did you get it here so fast?”

  She shook her head, refusing to answer. He frowned, puzzling it through. “The seller was at this gig. Someone on the crew? That’s how they got a hold of it, huh?”

  She tilted her head, smile apologetic, still refusing to answer, but he knew he was right.

  “Mother fucker…” he balled his fists. “I bet it was that asshole Anton.”

  “It doesn’t matter,” Andi said. “You have it back now.”

  Suddenly he felt like an idiot. And a huge jerk.

  “Thank you,” he paused, studying her in the streetlight. She was beautiful. But there were a lot of beautiful women. More importantly, she was crazy and smart and poured all her energy into making things better for other people—for the people she cared about. Driven. Creative. Full of a kind of passion and life that eclipsed any other woman he’d met before.

  “Andi,” he said hesitantly. “Go on a date with me.”

  “When?”

  “Now. Right now. Just let me go back upstairs and get my wallet.”

  She hesitated, glancing at her phone. “Ah, I’d love to but…”

  His heart sunk. “What is it? You don’t have a boyfriend do you?”

  She glanced at him surprised, then turned back to her phone. “No, of course not. Nothing like that. It’s Rei and Sawyer. If you go up there now, you’ll be interrupting round two.”

  “Oh.” He paused. “Wait, how do you know that?”

  Her grin turned cheeky, she started to saunter away from him.

  “Wait, Andi! How did you know that!?”

  She laughed, not stopping, and he shook his head in quiet horror. Then he shrugged and grinned and ran to catch up with her.

  Crazy good.
